ALLIE
ONE YEAR OF SERVICE
Hi, I’m Allie and I am the Front Desk & Office Manager. I answer the phone and either help the caller myself or direct the call to the appropriate staff person. The Alpha Center has several phone lines so that someone is always able to reach us. After business hours, we also have a hotline that is answered by one of our trained volunteers for anyone that calls on nights, weekends and holidays, which allows us to be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I greet clients as they come in and schedule appointments. Once a client comes for their appointment, I check them into the system and then direct them to our confidential waiting room. They wait there for their Client Advocate to come and take them back to a visit room for their appointment.
ERICA
10 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hello! My name is Erica and I am the Executive Director. I work with both individuals and groups who are interested in volunteering at our organization. Volunteers do a wide variety of things, such as assisting with special events, assembling packets of information for clients, connecting with our clients and keeping our building clean. I network with other agencies in the Sioux Falls and surrounding areas to build relationships with them and refer clients as needed. I also oversee HR and staff management, and assist with managing our client programs.
DJUANA
FIRST YEAR OF SERVICE
Hello! My name is Djuana and I’m the Client Services Supervisor. I have the privilege of meeting with clients on a daily basis for pregnancy test appointments, discussing pregnancy options and Earn While You Learn appointments. Earn While You Learn is a great program for moms and dads to earn Baby Bucks and learn more about their pregnancy, parenting and newborn and toddler care. Clients then redeem those Baby Bucks in our Baby Boutique, which is stocked entirely by our generous supporters! Clients are eligible to be in this program until their child is a toddler.
JENNA
3 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hi, my name is Jenna and I am the Nurse Manager. I have the opportunity to meet with clients for pregnancy tests and education appointments, as well as ultrasounds and STD tests. A limited ultrasound can help determine whether or not a pregnancy is viable and what the expected due date is. If the client wishes, I can discuss with her the baby’s fetal development at her current stage of pregnancy, and if she has additional questions or concerns, she is referred for free consult with one of our trusted medical providers. Alpha Center is also able to provide a service called Abortion Pill Rescue. If a woman changes her mind after taking the first abortion pill and doesn’t want to follow through with the second abortion pill, she can call a national hotline and be connected with us. Our medical team can provide her with progesterone supplements to attempt to override the effects of the abortion pill and increase her chances of being able to carry her pregnancy to term.
MADALYN
FIRST YEAR OF SERVICE
Hey, I’m Maddie! I work as a nurse here at Alpha Center, assisting with medical appointments such as pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and STD tests both at our center and on our mobile unit. The Legacy Mobile Medical Unit is a Sprinter van that is outfitted to provide all of our medical services to clients on college campuses and at other off-site locations. Our mission is to provide our life-transforming support, including Abortion Pill Rescue, all over South Dakota. All of the mobile unit’s medical services are overseen by our Medical Director.
SYDNEY
2 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hi! I’m Sydney and I’m an Occupational Therapist. I meet with clients on a daily basis for various appointments, help with Life Skills Classes and Birthing Classes on Tuesday evenings and focus on providing therapeutic interventions to pregnant and postpartum mothers, as well as helping clients learn how to manage their mental health.
PATTI
4 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hello! My name is Patti, and I am the Client Care Coordinator here at Alpha Center. I visit with clients who come for appointments throughout the day, oversee our inventory of baby items, process baby item donations and make sure none of our client needs are missed. I have the privilege of coordinating our mentor program, matching both male and female clients with one of our wonderful mentor volunteers. I also help with the organization of client records and files.
AMY
3 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hi, I’m Amy and I am the Life Skills Class Coordinator. I have a social work degree, and I utilize that through meeting with clients for pregnancy tests, Earn While You Learn appointments and other visit reasons. I work with other organizations, churches and individuals throughout the community to raise awareness of Alpha Center and maintain critical referrals and connections for our clients and our organization as a whole. I also coordinate our Life Skills Classes, a 12-week class for clients to learn how to be the best parents they can be for themselves and their baby. We have community volunteer speakers who speak on a broad range of topics including finances, taking care of babies, adoption, safety and delivery.
LINDA
36 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hi, my name is Linda and I am Alpha Center’s Business Manager. I take care of paying all the expenses, manage the budget and Alpha Center’s Automatic Giving program and handle all the state and federal paperwork associated with being a non-profit ministry. Since we are exclusively funded by private gifts, maintaining our Supporter Bill of Rights is very important to each team member working with our generous ministry partners.
SHELLY
5 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hi, my name is Shelly and I am the Special Projects Coordinator. I have the opportunity to help with many of Alpha Center and National Abstinence Clearinghouse’s special projects. Whether it be large group tours, events, thanking our supporters or organizing Alpha Center booths at community events, I really enjoy the variety of projects that I help with. I also enjoy getting to know the supporters and volunteers better, and I feel very blessed to be able to serve in this way!
ABBY
6 YEARS OF SERVICE
Hi, my name is Abby and I serve as Alpha Center’s After Abortion Care Coordinator. I work directly with women who have a history of abortion and want to experience healing from past wounds. For women who’ve had a recent abortion (less than one year prior), I team up with our medical staff to ensure our clients receive the care they need and deserve. For client’s who’ve had an abortion in the more distant past (from a year to several decades) I help lead a group study focused on healing and freedom from shame. I also provide information about our Memorial Garden for the Unborn. If you are reading this and you have an abortion in your past and still suffer from shame, I hope you will consider participating in one of our group studies. I believe there is hope and help for you.
DR. ALLEN & LESLEE UNRUH
41 YEARS OF SERVICE
In 1983, Dr. Allen Unruh put an ad in the phone book for an educational telephone system known as Tel-Max, in which Dr. Allen recorded messages for abortion minded women. After several young women responded immediately with enquiries for abortion appointments, Dr. Allen called upon Leslee for help. They received over 150 calls in the first month. The couple began inviting these women into their home, offering compassion and love and providing pregnancy tests from the local drugstore. Dr. Allen and Leslee together have grown Alpha Center to what it is today. A couple of years later, they founded South Dakota’s only maternity home, Omega Maternity Home, which housed unwed mothers. They also founded National Abstinence Clearinghouse, which teaches purity and sexual integrity to a national audience.
SARA
FIRST YEAR OF SERVICE
Hi, I’m Sara and I am the Marketing Assistant for both Alpha Center and National Abstinence Clearinghouse (NAC). NAC is a sister organization to Alpha Center and exists to help parents, educators and pregnancy centers promote the message of sexual integrity and purity. We do this by reaching youth through a variety of social media platforms and provide resources promoting healthy relationships in our Family Resource Store. We also host events each year to promote healthy relationships and conversations between parents and their children. The Purity Ball, Knight to Remember and God Mom & Me Tea are events that we host locally. We also help individuals plan similar events in their own communities! I help maintain and promote Alpha Center and NAC’s online presence and connect with new ministry partners to share how their support can make an impact.
